Connected Internet: Sorry About The Site Problems Today

  • Martin · 3 years ago
    Hi Everton,

I hope your odysee is finally coming to an end. I had a similar problem last year when ghacks was hosted at godaddy and they decided to cut the site off without warning because it was using to many ressources.

I decided to rent a rootserver so that a situation like that would never ever happen again to me. Care to tell me how much you are paying for your virtual server ?

take care and all the best

I think everything is ok. I had a few problems with the move to a VPS but they've fixed it now. I've also managed to nearly all my old links which is good.

I'm paying $90 a month. I'm not sure if that's cheap or not, but it's worth it to me just to ever having the problems I've had over the last two days, It seems a lot - it is on my budget anyway.

But I decided to do it as I want the guarantee that my site will be up regardless of what I do, or if it gets digged.

What it means though is that I need to make sure I make good use of the blog. I didn't realise until I added my archive and it added the number of posts per month, how much my posting rate had fallen.

I noticed the problems when the site was not showing earlier but only a empty directory structure (default) was showing and it was hinting at a vps.

90$ seems a lot to me but I don´t know the package of course. Is it a managed vps ?

I´am paying 59€ for my rootserver that hosts ghacks and all my other sites.

To be honest I don't know - I was so desperate I just whipped out my credit card

I do understand the situation. I always pondered making the move to a rootserver but could not convince myself to do it. When godaddy locked my account I had to make a decison fast and I ordered the server the day they locked me out.

They also offered me a switch to a vps or rootserver but theirs are mighty expensive.

I know that you probably don´t want to hear my advice to check on the account that you purchased and decide if it is an appropriate one or not. I would do so.

It is really expensive for a VPS if it is not managed.

    wish you the best ;)

hmm you're right - I'm seeing some managed VPS services for $20. Looks like I'll be moving hosts again :-(

I did take a look and I think it´s this expensive because they offer "management features". See here http://www.siteground.com/vps_management_servic...

Managed Servers are always more expensive, they don´t seem to offer unmanaged servers at all.

I did some quick research and everywhere I looked <href>PowerVPS were recommended so I've signed up with them at a cost of $40 - a saving of $49 or £27.

There were cheaper offerings like $15-20 but I think it's worth the little bit extra for piece of mind. It means another DNS change but at least this time it will be just be moving the same blog, so it shouldn't matter if users see old pages</href>

Managed servers are mostly expensive, but this looks quite higher.
