    Can you please be a bit open telling me whats that difference. :)

    the floating subscribe and bookmark buttons on the left
  • Nirmal · 2 years ago
    Everton,
    I feel the floating button should hang from the top. :-)

    My guess is that you'll need to float it with the site's left margin instead of the left margin of the browser. I completely missed it until you pointed it out, and also it's too far to reach. You expect to be able to click at the end of a post, so to speak.

    Also, this comment box isn't friends with Safari. It's 20 px or so too wide.

    @Nirmal

    I didn't put it at the top as I don't want any additional noise around my main ad unit.

    @TDH

    I wanted to anchor it to the left margin but I haven't worked out how to do that yet.

    When you say anchor it do you mean lock it in place on the side?

    I seem to remember giving things a fixed position in the bottom of a browser window to be a bit tricky. Lokesh Dhakar uses some CSS to lock his navigation icons in the upper left corner of his design - you may be able to tweak the code for the bottom left but it may prove troublesome. Have you considered the top right where it wouldn't clutter the ad unit?

    It is looking nice.
  • listikal · 2 years ago
    I'm interested to see how it pans out EB. I think some users find these more annoying then anything. I personally don't mind.
  • Everton · 2 years ago
    @listikal

    I don't think it will look annoying - as it's tucked away and it moves nice and slowly.

    @bill

    Top right would be less intrusive, but it's too far away from the action I think. I think I'm going to leave it where it is as at 800x600 and 1024x768 it's in a nice location. My theory is that ppl with bigger resolutions will know if they want to subscribe or not, without the need to be prompted

    It is good but hurts my eyes a bit

    In what way?
  • Freddy · 2 years ago
    you should get some nice stylish designs, instead of those buttons.
    try deviantart or search around (something like Bill mention)
  • Robert Irizarry · 2 years ago
    I noticed it as soon as I scrolled down the page. I'm actually very interested in your results with it. Although it takes up very little space, I think the "animation" may prove to catch the attention of quite a few folks.
  • Daniel Scocco · 2 years ago
    I don't like it man, sorry. I feel it is distracting.
  • Shashank · 2 years ago
    it looks nice but you need to work on design ..and are you sure that it isn't increasing the load time of your site.
  • Everton · 2 years ago
    @Daniel

    It's supposed to get a reader's attention and be 'distracting'. The trick is to make it not too distracting!

    @Shashank

    I'm definitely going to try and get better buttons. I don't think it increase loadtime as the pages seem to be loading faster - I think because I've turned off the 'Share This' plugin which is a bit of a resource hog

    I can't agree more. The line between subtlety and distraction is a thin one but if something completely disappears into the body of the blog, what's the point? As far as this particular implementation, I don't have any great issue with it. If someone really enjoys your blog, I don't see something like this as a deal breaker. Ultimately, the stats will tell if its serving its purpose.

    I am finding it amusing. ;) I love floating aspects on blogs.
