What I’d Like In Windows 8
I feel the floating button should hang from the top. :-)
Also, this comment box isn't friends with Safari. It's 20 px or so too wide.
I didn't put it at the top as I don't want any additional noise around my main ad unit.
@TDH
I wanted to anchor it to the left margin but I haven't worked out how to do that yet.
I seem to remember giving things a fixed position in the bottom of a browser window to be a bit tricky. Lokesh Dhakar uses some CSS to lock his navigation icons in the upper left corner of his design - you may be able to tweak the code for the bottom left but it may prove troublesome. Have you considered the top right where it wouldn't clutter the ad unit?
I don't think it will look annoying - as it's tucked away and it moves nice and slowly.
@bill
Top right would be less intrusive, but it's too far away from the action I think. I think I'm going to leave it where it is as at 800x600 and 1024x768 it's in a nice location. My theory is that ppl with bigger resolutions will know if they want to subscribe or not, without the need to be prompted
In what way?
try deviantart or search around (something like Bill mention)
It's supposed to get a reader's attention and be 'distracting'. The trick is to make it not too distracting!
@Shashank
I'm definitely going to try and get better buttons. I don't think it increase loadtime as the pages seem to be loading faster - I think because I've turned off the 'Share This' plugin which is a bit of a resource hog
I can't agree more. The line between subtlety and distraction is a thin one but if something completely disappears into the body of the blog, what's the point? As far as this particular implementation, I don't have any great issue with it. If someone really enjoys your blog, I don't see something like this as a deal breaker. Ultimately, the stats will tell if its serving its purpose.
