Connected Internet: My First Attempt To Stop A Splog

  • green · 2 years ago
Hi there, is this site yours? If not, i believe they are in trouble. They stole almost everything in their content. Take a look at Wanted: New Logo For Connected Internet post at main page. Lol. I have same problem with my Turkish portal. Everybody trying to steal my content without linking to my portal. And this really hurts :(

Hey guys, sorry i was just trying it out, wasnt planning on making the site fully live... was just trying to find a good RSS Displayer that can show good articles/links on the subject.. first time using Wordpress and such..

i'll try remove the content asoon as i find out how to make a mass remove of content on this.

Sorry anyways peeps, was only up for about 2 hours.
  • jake · 2 years ago
wow they took everything. i heard google bans duplicate content, but how do they find out which content is the duplicate?
  • Vinod @ VinodLive! · 2 years ago
    OMFGoodness!
    He really is a Retard(ed) o!
He must have been sucking the RSS juice. Time to put a '(c) if you are viewing this on a website , its stolen content. The original article can be found at www.connectedinternet.co.uk' on all of your Feeds.
  • Rich · 2 years ago
I've removed all the content, once again sorry for all the hastle. As mentioned above yes im retarded for trying it.. i didnt think it would of done somthing in that sort of scale!

Definately a good move for me to remove that plugin.. and i deverse all the comments all you guys throw at me ;)
  • Everton · 2 years ago
@Rich - thanks. May I enquire what exactly is your system?

@Vinod - I tried adding copyright notices to my content, but I think it's a waste of time as splogs are automated so the splog owner will never see it, and i can't imagine users not reading an article because it's stolen!

Judging by Rich's reaction getting in touch does seem to work!
  • Vinod @ VinodLive! · 2 years ago
Another option is NOT to offer full feeds.
    Hard decision though.
  • Rich · 2 years ago
    @Everton

I Am using Wordpress. I was trying to intergrate an RSS Feed into the site into the right navigiation bar. But looks like "Feedburner" Did the complete oposite.

I'll pay for any extra bandwidth bills that might come up from this incident.. (if it made any difference)

    Hey Everton,

John Chow was talking about this a while back - apparently he's havening a real issue with this on a wider scale. Anyway, he advocated something we do a lot anyway - linking in each post to previous posts and pages in your site.

It's good for your readers (reference links), good for SEO (for those pages), and when your site is RSS sucked like this, those links will still be pointing to your site. ** The catch is for those links to be full absolute links (including your domain name), not relative links - otherwise they'll be relative on whatever site they end up on.

Also, I am personally very impressed by Rich's decision to join in the discussion here, apologize, and remove the content. Very cool.

    Have an awesome day!
    Dan

Thanks guys for being resonable, as i said. It was an honest mistake, did not think it would do content on that kind of scale.. It was my first attempt at a website/blog so i know i wont be trying anything like that again!

    Cheers everyone

Everton: Sending an email to Google wont work that fast. They have a procedure called as Filing a DCA which is a long procedure. I had this problem ling back and here is what I did.

1.Find out the hosting of the blog.
    2. Write an email to the support with original url and his url ( specifically of few posts)

When I did, They replied me immediately and that site was banned. There is some law related to this.

    This works faster than Google

    Hi,

Can u please port this Typo XP theme for blogger.
It will be a great help for me.
  • Everton · 2 years ago
Sorry Ajay, I have no idea how to do this and no time to research it. Why not switch to Wordpress? It's a million times better
  • Ajay · 2 years ago
Then can u plz tell me the cheapest web hosting tht will provide me Wordpress hosting. U know I m very poor and cant afford the costly hosting plans.
  • Vinod @ VinodLive! · 2 years ago
For God's sake , Never Beg. Do some research instead.
  • Everton · 2 years ago
    @Ajay

You can probably find a $1/mth plan somewhere.

    @Vinod

    Be nice!
  • Rich · 2 years ago
I think there was a company called asmallorange that dose a package for $25 for an entire year, thats just about $2 a month.
  • Ajay · 2 years ago
    Vinod...Wot do u think I m begging??????
FYI....If u dun know the full form of ths then ask me???????U *#$

Kudos to Rich for being part of the discussion :) I have to say I'm amazed by the power of RSS - if only I could make it work that well for me... I'm still trying to show my users how to add feeds to whatever they happen to be using... e.g. My!Yahoo

Am glad it was all resolved amicably - but what's with the new thing between Ajay and Vinod? I thought the last comment (if that's meant to be swearing at the end) was kinda uncalled for.

With regards to cheap hosting - I've heard good things about ASmallOrange as well but I haven't used them at all. It may suit your needs. If not, try searching a few webhost directories?

Alternative - the comments section from this Lifehacker article about free webhosting (quite a few support php/mySQL) maybe useful.

Why do u always looking for php based hosting?

im running DotNetNuke with ASP.NET Ajax support. This is very cool and flexible framework.

    Ajay - there's a forum for support.
  • Make A Guitar · 2 years ago
My relatively small blog was struck by content thieves on three occasions within its first year! Everyone is a potential target. Fortunately, I was able to deal with these incidents rather quickly. This was before I had moved to Wordpress. Now, I'm using a number of tools to help with some of this. We'll see how they work.

Now, I’m using a number of tools to help with some of this. We’ll see how they work.

    What tools are you using?

BTW I know you are trying to create nice links to your site, but it's hard to have a conversation with 'Make A Guitar'! If I add a link to my sidebar will you please stop and use a proper name?

How can you find out if your site is being stolen like this?
  • Vinod @ VinodLive · 2 years ago
Good way is to search for a paragraph of your blog text in the google. The duplicates would pop up in results.
  • Everton · 2 years ago
setup google alerts for your url so that you can see who is genuinely linking to your posts that might have been missed by Technorati and WP, as well as the splogs using your content.
