PS2 compatability has not been removed, I can play all my PS2 games on my PS3 - or you can just download them for a couple of quid from teh PS store

It's such a shame that in the UK we've had PS2 compatibility removed. Two consoles have to be maintained meaning even more mess and wires.

I have to agree with Ricardo. The PS3 is a great all around great system, much more than xbox. Just the bluray player gives it an advantage. Depending on what your needs are, the xbox could be a better system as it is for more hardcore gamers.

I got talked into a Wii the wife wanted the fitness thing for her and the kids. I wish I had the PS3 or from what you have said, maybe not. And it is too much cash and time to buy both, so we will see what happens for christmas.

Michael,

I never once pulled from the article that you are not happy with the PS3, actually the opposite. I feel I read it right; you enjoy the console yet still have minor gripes. Although, many other readers don't seem to understand your points.

Did you try CoD4 online with PS3 yet? I'd like to get your thoughts on the differences between 360 and PS3. From personal experience and a few friends who have recently moved from 360 to PS3, we all seem to agree that the game seems to run a bit faster on PS3.

Anyway, ignore what most of the posters have stated, I think your review was very neutral.

In regards to horsepower; I recommend you check out Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The game uses less than half of the PS3s capability but still manages to amaze. The lush jungle environment is just outstanding and remains one of the best looking PS3 games to date. If you have already played Oblivion on 360, go rent a copy for the PS3 version - another beauty that actually has been touted to have better graphics on the PS3 (due to the developers enhancing the game engine for the PS3 port - did you know they crammed most of the code on the main processor? Imagine if they used the SPUs!)

Still, I agree having 'raw power' is useless if no one can tap into it. I see your point, though I feel that developers have indeed made progress in multi-platform development, especially on the PS3 side. Not to say, the 360 is no slouch. I just feel devs are approaching the limit of the 360 while the PS3 has moved into full stride and many journalists are stating that current releases are visually identical. Only time will tell.

I own a 360 as well, but it rarely gets any playing time. I honestly was kicking myself for buying it, as it did not live up to my expectations. I refuse to pay a monthly gaming subscription for something I get for free on my PS3. I have compared game graphics between both consoles (i.e.: CoD4, DMC4, Burnout) and must say that some titles look better on 360 and others on the PS3. Then there are some titles that just run better on the PS3 (probably due to HDD installs) and some are only differentiated by the user interface, the controller. I am not a fan of the directional pad on the 360’s controller. Actually, I hate it.

On a side note; if you had written an article slamming Xbox 360, I think you would be getting very similar responses. ; )

Anyways, do yourself a favor and at a very minimum go rent: Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Warhawk, and CoD4.

Play CoD4 online. It has less features, but let me know if you think it seems to run faster than on 360…

I never said that whatever year will be the PS3's year. I just said that the investment that people have put into their machines will be justified. For those people who want a all in one box that does the job well, and is not a pc, will appreciate Sony efforts. The money we have put in will not look like its all in Vain.

The hardware aspect of PS3 is astounding. For $499 you're getting a system way more powerful than any PC you can build at that price.

Hack it with linux, put it in a cluster and you have your own mini-supercomputer!

I still can't justify getting a PS3, I've got an Xbox 360, but don't feel I use that enough neither - the Bluray player would be nice to have, but then I'd be spending money on replacing my DVD collection - I can't afford that!

PS3's only been out for 2 years. Saying, "Next year will be PS3's" two times isn't too big of a deal. Besides, PS3 has turned things around DRAMATICALLY within the past year. So to say, "Next year is PS3's year" shouldn't really be blasphemy.

At no time did I say the Xbox was a lesser machine. Sure I paid a lot for my PS3, but now I'm seeing a return on my investment. I've always wanted just to have 1 or two machines under my tv and now this is becoming a reality.

The Xbox has great titles, but when I looked at upgrading the machine, I saw that I would end up paying the same amount as the PS3, but with the hassle of having a ton of peripherals and accessories laying about. I also read that the Xbox is not very reliable piece of hardware and will eventually burn out. That's part of the reason I bought a PS3.

Cammer, I know you love your Xbox and that Live is better than the PSN. Some of the features like knowing when your friend was last on and what game their playing seems like a useless feature designed for stalkers.

We all like what we like, but don't dismiss our comments please.

To eject a disc you simply press "triangle" on the disc, and select eject disc.
To turn on a PS3 you just press the center button on your controller.
And, Xbox Live has no features that Sony doesn't have now. I don't see the difference now.

Obviously all the main points have been mentioned.

In one or two years, the true value of the PS3 will be seen. I bought mine almost a year ago and love it. I wanted a whole entertainment hub and the PS3 ticks all the boxes. There are already some great titles and the line up for this Autumn and winter is fantastic.

Also don't forget that PLAYTV is coming. Just upgrade the HDD and enjoy pausing, rewinding and recording live tv. Plus the fact you can use your psp to view your recorded movies and tv wirelessley from anywhere in the world and you've got a winner.

Am I wrong?

I think this is articale uis about right, I have all three consoles and agree with most of the above. The one area I don't feel is right is the Blu-ray part. It is OK but I don't feel it is a large step up and not good enough to re-buy old DVD's for Blu-Ray.

The comments above are just silly, they are people trying to justify there PS3 purchase. You can say that adding all the 360 parts up gives you the same as a PS3. Some people don't want Live, will Sony give you some money back for adding wireless and every month give you something for Not accessing onlive.

The main problem with the PS3 is Games, that it there are no good games and as far as I can see there will not be for a while. Yes there is LBP, KZ2 etc.. but there has been LBP, KZ2 for years, I could have writen them by now, we are talking 4 years since I first hear about them. I had a PS1, PS2 and now a PS3 and to be total truthful, I have been very disapointed.... which is a shame, I will not be getting a PS4 if it ever comes out...

Oh! I understand now!

My friend, the console came with a fairly thick black cable, its the one thats black and is a little larger than a Harley brake cable, one end of it you plug into a wall socket (You might have once used one to drive an air compressor when building custom Harleys or powering an amp in your punk band, oh and didn't EVERYONE use to be in a band back then? Its another term for bumming about). Now once you have one end of that cable fitted into the wall socket you need to plug the other end into the ps3 and actually turn it on, oh and not before you have connected it to a television set and sound capable device (12" Black and white television sets you might struggle with, and same with grammophone's, but you would know all this if you had actually READ the manual of course), oh and don't forget to flick the switch at the back of the console.

But in summary to be able to review something you should really turn it ON before doing so. It seems more like you have just looked at the box and then started sleep typing and typed out a whole review.

The price isn't bad either compared to a similar model Xbox. PS3 comes out a bit cheaper. Remember, Xbox Live requires a paid membership. Hmmm... I don't know about this article. As a person who enjoys both consoles even I can tell something is off. Desperate for hits maybe???

It is obvious because like any 360 fanboy you fail to note the total cost of a 360 for persons looking for a full experience. That means paying for Live. try tacking a 4 year cost to the bill from now on. take the average 360 and ad the cost of a hdd (proprietary) since downloading a few patches, a few demos, and one movie fills the 360 hdd. look at the fact thst everything on the 360 is proprietary. wait, that would defeat your obvious purpose. oh well, at least we know from now on a link to this site or you is a do not click.

You can eject the disc by going to the disk/game/movie icon and pressing the triangle button. This will bring up a "menu" where you can select "Eject Disc".
