Netbooks on their way out… official!
Also "The PS3 is a nice system. They need to come out with some games for it"
Games for it? If you look on the shelves, you'll see that there are plenty of games for the ps3. There are alot of multi platform releases and not to mention all of the 1st party games coming this fall.....littlebigplanet, socom, resistance, naruto, etc.
Anyhow, I'm glad you like your ps3. I really love mine.
If it wasn't for this outdated technollogy I could have cheetos and beer telleported into my mouth while my machine is switching games for me.
Maybe next gen.
Morne
Are you kidding me? Do you even know what's in the PS3? You seriously don't sound like someone who actually bought a PS3- and if you did you might want to do a bit more research before publishing an article about it. You are such a tool...
======================
Flaw in this argument... to turn on/off the PS3 from any distance, you simply need to have the controller in your hand. That big button in the middle? Takes care of a lot of your issues.
I'll disagree with you on the price.. the 360 was that high when it came out, and it sold. The PS3 has been the same price and it's selling.
You are right on the output, but again, how many people will be that concerned about that option? And the networking.. .that's the one thing I don't think anyone will argue with you on. Sony's been behind the 8 ball on this one for a while (although they're obviously hoping to improve on it soon)...
One problem with your "pro" arguement... Backward compatibility is no longer a "feature".
I'm going to stay out of the hardware issue for fear of starting a "war".. But I will say that if companies are unwilling to put some effort into their programming/development, their loss, not mine... too many good companies do for me to worry about the 'lazy' ones.
All I ever see is the 40 gig.
Everyone has already answered and criticized you for your other comments, including xbox 360 edges out PS3 in horsepower. Load times are longer on 360 than PS3!!!!!
Networking is the same on both systems except you can't cross game voice chat. Both have video chat, in-game messaging, everything.
Michael.. I seriously suggest you go back to your Building and Riding harley Job cause you kida suck at Reviewing.
I'm glad you are not going through buyer’s remorse with your recent purchase. There are some points that others have already pointed out (i.e.: eject button - press triangle) I will leave alone.
In defense of your statement about not being able to power on/off the console - EVERYONE; I believe he was referring to using the IR adapter. With the IR remote, you would not be able to power the system on or off. Though I much prefer Bluetooth - not having to worry about direct line-of-sight is a luxury often overlooked.
When it comes to community vs. networking... Networking (like one other stated) Sony has the edge with dedicated servers, such as Warhawk or Resistance. As far as community, Live has the edge until Home is released. Then we will have to see if XBL's Fall update can regain that lost edge. As of now, Community goes to XBL (barely, cross-game chat is only lacking option in PSN) and Networking goes to PSN. Lets not forget that PSN offers Voice and Video chat with friends just as Xbox Live. Cross-game invites exist, not all developers make use of it like UbiSoft does.
I think you might be missing something, in regards to the 10GB downloadable games comment. I do not disagree that having the option to buy PSN games on disc would be nice, but you are not restricted to proprietary HDDs. Rather than storage being an issue, its more of a minor one. Instead you can buy any 2.5 notebook hard drive. I've installed a 160GB drive in my 60GB model and loving every extra bit of storage. I know people who have 300GB or more on their PS3s. Lets not forget that you have memory card slots as well, which expand your storage in Gigs as well as USB HDDs.
Raw Horsepower goes to PS3. Simple fact. Ease of development goes to 360. Simple fact. We could start spouting off numbers, but any tech-guru can easily agree the CELL B.E. more powerful (in terms of "horsepower" or rather, FLOPS) than the Intel chips used in 360. Graphic capability is yet to be seen, though lately PS3 titles are starting to shine a bit brighter than the competition's.
Then finally - on price. We all know the new PS3 models have been recently upgraded. The low-end is now 80GB at $399 and high-end is now 160GB at $499. Not too shabby, granted I would still like to see a price drop, but lets not forget the PS3 has received a price drop of $100 since release. If I recall, 360 has -not- received nearly as much of a drop.
Oh yeah, "...hardcore gamer with 24 years of console experience on Sony’s newest box."
Is this a typo?
I can tell that by the way you bitch and moan and generally 'review' the console like a complete imbecile.
How can you list PSN as a minus just because it isn't as good as Live? That is seriously fanboyish nonsense. Does PSN work? Yes. Is it free? Yes. How can that possibly be a negative?
You can turn off and on the console remotely with the controller and you use the official ps3 remote control which costs only 20 euros (not much for a good quality bluetooth remote).
Sony is working on a great project called home which will put the 360 aside, so stay tuned.
Developping games for the PS3 is getting easier every day thanks to the new tools and software that sony is providing to developers. Time will tell you everything.
I am pleased that so many Sony fanboys turned out to tell me what an idiot I am. That means you're all reading and the site owner is making money. Thanks guys, keep reading!
To Nynja, who actually had something to contribute: theoretical horsepower and demonstrable horsepower don't always add up to the same solution. 10% more powerful often loses to 20% easier to program for. I will take you at your word that the PS3 is a more powerful architecture on paper, but so far the games that have appeared on both systems have favored the 360 with better framerates and/or clearer textures. (and the 34 years thing is in reference to me starting on an Odyssey at age and owning almost every console made since then, christ I'm old)
I do like the system. I thought I said that? Oh well, you guys have fun, go flame each other on some fan forum or something. Check back next week for an article on videogame fanboys, or something :P

This article is pro-PS3!
1. Relax
2. Go get lives
3. Realize that this is about an enjoyable hobby, not something that would be grounds for a fist fight.
Holy cow. Sony does not make anyone's life worth living, and if you are that polarized about the PS3 vs 360 as videogame hardware, holy cow you need some help. If you like games, go buy both systems. If you can only afford one, do the homework and see which will be best for you.
In the two articles I have written on the PS3 for this site I am pretty sure I said that it is pretty close and you'd be happy either way.
sheesh

Thanks for the heads-up on remote disc ejection. They could have made this feature a little more obvious, but then I also could have read the manual.
Thanks again

Also, you can turn the ps3 on off with the sixaxis from the XMB.

Oh! I understand now!
My friend, the console came with a fairly thick black cable, its the one thats black and is a little larger than a Harley brake cable, one end of it you plug into a wall socket (You might have once used one to drive an air compressor when building custom Harleys or powering an amp in your punk band, oh and didn't EVERYONE use to be in a band back then? Its another term for bumming about). Now once you have one end of that cable fitted into the wall socket you need to plug the other end into the ps3 and actually turn it on, oh and not before you have connected it to a television set and sound capable device (12" Black and white television sets you might struggle with, and same with grammophone's, but you would know all this if you had actually READ the manual of course), oh and don't forget to flick the switch at the back of the console.
But in summary to be able to review something you should really turn it ON before doing so. It seems more like you have just looked at the box and then started sleep typing and typed out a whole review.

The comments above are just silly, they are people trying to justify there PS3 purchase. You can say that adding all the 360 parts up gives you the same as a PS3. Some people don't want Live, will Sony give you some money back for adding wireless and every month give you something for Not accessing onlive.
The main problem with the PS3 is Games, that it there are no good games and as far as I can see there will not be for a while. Yes there is LBP, KZ2 etc.. but there has been LBP, KZ2 for years, I could have writen them by now, we are talking 4 years since I first hear about them. I had a PS1, PS2 and now a PS3 and to be total truthful, I have been very disapointed.... which is a shame, I will not be getting a PS4 if it ever comes out...
In one or two years, the true value of the PS3 will be seen. I bought mine almost a year ago and love it. I wanted a whole entertainment hub and the PS3 ticks all the boxes. There are already some great titles and the line up for this Autumn and winter is fantastic.
Also don't forget that PLAYTV is coming. Just upgrade the HDD and enjoy pausing, rewinding and recording live tv. Plus the fact you can use your psp to view your recorded movies and tv wirelessley from anywhere in the world and you've got a winner.
Am I wrong?
To turn on a PS3 you just press the center button on your controller.
And, Xbox Live has no features that Sony doesn't have now. I don't see the difference now.
Try playing every title over the net, oops sony doesn`t do that i forgot! You can also see what your friends are playing in live and when was the last time they were on. no difference? hmmm....
"In one or two years, the true value of the PS3 will be seen"
Thats the comment every ps3 owner makes every stinkin year!!! wait 2007 will be the year of ps3, oh wait 2008 will be, damn, i mean 2009 will be, final fantasy will destroy xbox 360, crap it`s going to 360 noooo!!! Yeah if i were ps3 fans i would bet everything you had on lbp and killzone 2! haha at least you do have a blu ray player, and movies are not expensive right? $30.00 a movie is great! yeah i would rush out and buy a ps3 also, man it`s quiet, the fans on the 360 are loud! hey turn up the sound system! oh wait you can`t afford it, you paid $500.00 for your blu ray player!
Dude, you can see what people are playing on the PSN as well...
Your English is poor by the way ;0)
At no time did I say the Xbox was a lesser machine. Sure I paid a lot for my PS3, but now I'm seeing a return on my investment. I've always wanted just to have 1 or two machines under my tv and now this is becoming a reality.
The Xbox has great titles, but when I looked at upgrading the machine, I saw that I would end up paying the same amount as the PS3, but with the hassle of having a ton of peripherals and accessories laying about. I also read that the Xbox is not very reliable piece of hardware and will eventually burn out. That's part of the reason I bought a PS3.
Cammer, I know you love your Xbox and that Live is better than the PSN. Some of the features like knowing when your friend was last on and what game their playing seems like a useless feature designed for stalkers.
We all like what we like, but don't dismiss our comments please.
Cheers
PS3's only been out for 2 years. Saying, "Next year will be PS3's" two times isn't too big of a deal. Besides, PS3 has turned things around DRAMATICALLY within the past year. So to say, "Next year is PS3's year" shouldn't really be blasphemy.

Hack it with linux, put it in a cluster and you have your own mini-supercomputer!
I never said that whatever year will be the PS3's year. I just said that the investment that people have put into their machines will be justified. For those people who want a all in one box that does the job well, and is not a pc, will appreciate Sony efforts. The money we have put in will not look like its all in Vain.
Read, think before writing. Will help you later in life Kev =0)
In regards to horsepower; I recommend you check out Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The game uses less than half of the PS3s capability but still manages to amaze. The lush jungle environment is just outstanding and remains one of the best looking PS3 games to date. If you have already played Oblivion on 360, go rent a copy for the PS3 version - another beauty that actually has been touted to have better graphics on the PS3 (due to the developers enhancing the game engine for the PS3 port - did you know they crammed most of the code on the main processor? Imagine if they used the SPUs!)
Still, I agree having 'raw power' is useless if no one can tap into it. I see your point, though I feel that developers have indeed made progress in multi-platform development, especially on the PS3 side. Not to say, the 360 is no slouch. I just feel devs are approaching the limit of the 360 while the PS3 has moved into full stride and many journalists are stating that current releases are visually identical. Only time will tell.
I own a 360 as well, but it rarely gets any playing time. I honestly was kicking myself for buying it, as it did not live up to my expectations. I refuse to pay a monthly gaming subscription for something I get for free on my PS3. I have compared game graphics between both consoles (i.e.: CoD4, DMC4, Burnout) and must say that some titles look better on 360 and others on the PS3. Then there are some titles that just run better on the PS3 (probably due to HDD installs) and some are only differentiated by the user interface, the controller. I am not a fan of the directional pad on the 360’s controller. Actually, I hate it.
On a side note; if you had written an article slamming Xbox 360, I think you would be getting very similar responses. ; )
Anyways, do yourself a favor and at a very minimum go rent: Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Warhawk, and CoD4.
Play CoD4 online. It has less features, but let me know if you think it seems to run faster than on 360…
I still read this article and think it represents that I like the PS3 and have a good impression of it.
I have been playing MGS4 the last week, and I will say that if developers write for the PS3 we will see some games that look better than the 360 versions. Unfortunately, I don't see many developers sinking money into making a superior version for one platform, and we will likely continue to see games that hit both systems and one or the other will be marginally better.
I like the PS3 a lot actually, minus the remote power issue and the fact that we don't have a choice to bitstream DD+, TrueHD and DTS-HD variants. I realize that having the player doing the decoding is not a detriment, but it would still be nice to have the functionality.
In fact, because of the PS3 I just bought a new avr to use as a pre/pro since I am tired of waiting for the guys that make separates to offer a pre/pro with the features I want that won't get me divorced :)

I never once pulled from the article that you are not happy with the PS3, actually the opposite. I feel I read it right; you enjoy the console yet still have minor gripes. Although, many other readers don't seem to understand your points.
Did you try CoD4 online with PS3 yet? I'd like to get your thoughts on the differences between 360 and PS3. From personal experience and a few friends who have recently moved from 360 to PS3, we all seem to agree that the game seems to run a bit faster on PS3.
Anyway, ignore what most of the posters have stated, I think your review was very neutral.
I let my Xbox Live subscription lapse last year, but my 15 year old was telling me about their model just last week. I did not realize that Microsoft wasn't running dedicated servers for the big name games, and that really short changes the 360 users in terms of the online experience.
As far as 360 vs PS3, I am leaning PS3 at this point (I would just like to see developers spend a little time writing for it on multi-platform games, otherwise the difference is negligible to non-existent). Owning both allows me to play exclusives, and for the rest, I'll just take a peek what the editors at the big game sites say in their reviews at launch before I settle on a platform for a given game. I did the same thing in the Genesis/SNES, Saturn/Playstation and PS2/Xbox/Gamecube eras. I will opt for the PS3 version of a game unless the reviewers say it has framerate or graphics issues, in which case I'll snag the 360 version.
