Again, you need traffic to make money. Even though your advice is good but if you don't have traffic you don't make money. Btw nice trick with the lady holding ads ;)

I fully agree with Martin than 300_250 and 336_280 are the most converting.
Tip 1 is a bit risky. Adsense is the main money maker of many blogs and until this sort of implementation is not officially approved, i won't recommend anyone to try it. As far as tip 2 - It's a good idea, buit need to be wisely implemented.

To date, I still see many sites using these kinds of ads. You can frame the ads, but you can't line images to the left, making them appear like bullet points. Neither can you have signs, arrows or fingers saying "click here" or "sponsor us".

If you feel leery of dressing up adsense, simply insert them between paragraphs of free downloads like I do here:

Are you sure that one could use the google ads like the woman holding a banner?
I have seen google more tolerant to popular websites than the lesser known ones.

Anyways, I loved to read the wiki write up of Robert Cialdini. Now i know why offers come with a "limited period only" tag.

Marvy! I didn't even know it was an ad until I looked closely. I even clicked on the ad. :D

The exception to using banner ads (which tend to be ignored) is to insert it in between very long paragraphs, so it looks like a part of the paragraph.

I also find it helpful to place adsense blocks near download links on my freeware page. But mind you- not too near or Google would warn you. 14pt is enough distance between the links and the blocks.

Very interesting tips you have got there!

I think that most people won't have the patience to do the "image" thing but you never know.

I just hope that they don't get a "love note" from Google also......

Another thing that came to mind while I was typing in my comment was that a lot of people have blogs on blogger.com and putting images on the side requires that you have a "hosting" site since blogger won't just take any image source.

Joseph: Everton is using a 300x250 box which does convert best next to 336x280

Hoto: Most webmasters changed their payment method from Checks to Bank Deposits which is far more convenient.

If you do get 4%+ CTR you should not change anything. If it is below that figure and you are running a blog or similar website you should consider changing ad placement and appearance.

Good stuff though, I need to start working on my ad placement, as it's getting me pretty awful conversion rates. I love the postcard one, but I can never find enough space on my pages to put a normal ad, let alone something huge. I guess I just need to be more creative and eek out a bit more space for the moneymaker.
