Connected Internet: Do You Pay Taxes On Your Blog Earnings?

  • Michael Lankton · 1 year ago
I claim the income from private sponsors, as I invoice them monthly and it's traceable back to me. Adsense revenue doesn't justify claiming, hopefully this year it will increase to the point that I will.

I pay taxes on my income made from my two websites http://ww2db.com and http://www.cougardb.com . It's my duty as an American to pay taxes!

    *hums Americans the Beautiful*

Besides, why would you want to risk big fines for failure to report only a few hundred or even a couple thousand of dollars? Not worth the risk, plus you'll have that guilt on your conscience.

@mlankton : I get 1099-MISC forms from Google, so going by your thinking, you should report your Adsense income as it already is being reported to the IRS.

That's only if you're American, though.

I have just sorted out my tax bill, dunno why I left it to the last minute but never mind, sorted now.

Yep, I put all my web earnings together, sum it up and put it in as "additional income". But only the amount that I have actually recieved, not the amount that shows as "owed to me" but hasn't been paid out. Of course for me the amount is soo small we are only talking a difference of a few cents.

I'm in Canada, but I've heard rumors that in the states there actually isn't any "law" requiring individuals to pay personal income tax, is it true or just an urban legend?

Yeah I include my income on my return. It was funny when my accountant had a look at the income sources and saw Google. I had to explain the whole affiliate marketing thing to him. After I'd finished I think he'd decided to give up accounting after 20 years and start running websites!

Yes, I pay taxes on blogging income...I can't wait for the day when there's a flat tax for fairtax, it would make my life SO much easier. :)

    Obviously one should.

It's obviously a wise decision to pay taxes on blogging income rather than creating a risk by ourselves of paying big fines for failing to report only a few hundred or even a thousand of dollars.

"i dont earn that much to pay the taxex"

Does the amount you earn really make a difference in terms of obeying the law and reporting your income?

What about MyBlogEarnings for january 2008?
  • Everton · 1 year ago
    @Vino

I lost all my files including my revenue tracker, so I never wrote the report at the end of the month. I've been debating whether I'm going to continue the reports as they don't appear to be as popular as they used to be e.g. you're the first person to ask about the missing report. I made around $10k in Jan.

I will do my first return this year - Amazon pay me in gift vouchers. Do they count as income which I will pay tax on?
