Connected Internet: Connected Internet Drops 3 Belt Sizes to Page Rank 3

  • Mike · 2 years ago
Everton - it'll be you, your mum and me because I'm not gonna let them dictate to me either. I thought for a while about taking TLA down on all my sites but, you know what? I can't be bothered.

In the last 3 months, StumbleUpon has driven more traffic to my site than Google (29.1% - 27.7%). The visitors have stayed longer and more of them have subscribed so if, for whatever reason, Big G kick me from the index then I'm not going to cry myself to sleep over it.

They've chosen a bad time to do what they're doing. Social bookmarking sites like StumbleUpon are getting more popular and people are relying less on search engines than ever before.

They've bitten the hand that fed them for the last 10 years and we won't forget.

I was thinking they use blogs as a punching bag to release their anger and shame after defeated by Microsoft to get facebook dot com. Looks like they're really frust...lol.
  • Forest Parks · 2 years ago
    That's the spirit.

Readers really could not give a damn about pagerank and that is where the true power of a blog comes from.

Google are getting too big for their boots, maybe!!
  • Zakman · 2 years ago
Hmm Forest, Google getting too big for their boots? I should agree, cause I've already planned my next five posts:

    1. Why they're gonna stamp my Google PR on my passport

    2. Why I keep a Google talisman in my glove box

    3. How Google discovered which shampoo I use--and how my PR depends on it

    4. Why the barber asked my Google PR before giving me a haircut

    5. Will the next generation of cars run on Google?

Everton, I am a recent reader of you blog. I never could keep myself away from reading your blogs daily. Though, I am crazy busy at work being a CEO of a company, I'm still crazy reading your blog daily. I didnt come to your blog through Google though and not many who are your regular readers would have. But still, I dont worry reading your blog for a reason that you lost you PR... Come on... We are still here and not bothering about PR.

Its always your blog that brings me here, and hope the same from everyone...
  • Kline · 2 years ago
wow.. fuckers at google lowered mine too.. i dont even use tla for much.. one site.. one page
  • Joseph Plazo · 2 years ago
Im very surprised that google restored one of my site ranking from PR4 to PR5... this despite having one tiny little TLA on the right side of my front page.

Maybe its coz google guffawed at my littleness having only one little advertiser on that TLA?

Nonetheless- I'm taking down TLA.... google channels too much of my traffic.

    Sigh. I hate yielding.
  • Joseph Plazo · 2 years ago
I doubt Everton's traffic will suffer from the PR knockdown. His traffic is largely viral in my opinion- look at the whopper feedburner stats!
  • Kline · 2 years ago
yea... my site only had one TLA ad.. that was getting me like a whoping... $7 per month.. took it down immediately.. not that i expect traffic to suffer.. but.. damn.. somoene needs to put google in their place. 1000 relevent backlinks with no SEO shennigans and penalization from one link? screw them.. thats horrible.
  • Joseph Plazo · 2 years ago
You're lucky. My TLA from textlinkads was netting me monster $3 a month- so big that my entire city held a feastday for it.

Kline, aren't you just wondering why textlinkads.com still hovers at Pagerank 7???? The mother survives but the chicks get their necks chopped off
  • netnuke · 2 years ago
I think many sites dropping pr, luckly my all websites increased by average 1, some them directly increased by +3 including subpages. The magic is writing unique content and displaying no ads, lool first one is good idea but second is painful :(
  • janusz · 2 years ago
Its all weird. I got PR4 and I have launched my site like 2 months ago.
  • Martin · 2 years ago
Everton don't worry, mine went up from 3 to 5 again today. It does look pretty random to me :)
  • Hair Loss Treatment · 2 years ago
I like your spirit Everton. Keep up the positive attitude. To see it all go in 24 hours is not easy.
  • Tomaz · 2 years ago
Well, as long you don't rely on selling links through PR, it doesn't matter to you. I think that Google is just warning everyone who encourages link building and has some influence.

You do have influence on the web according to your Alexa 17,802 (at the moment of this writing) and you do encourage link buying and selling since you have Text Link Ads and TNX ads displayed on your sidebar.

By the way, my 3 month old blog finally got pagerank and is now 4! What do I care, I'll never sell links anyway. ;)
  • Serg V · 2 years ago
Just delete googletoolbar from your browser now page rank - fake. If your site love many people Google can't change it ;)
  • Sasha T. · 2 years ago
This is totally wrong. My blog got a PR4 in this update and you have got PR3? No way man. I don't deserve PR4 if blog like your have a PR3 and John's blog PR4...

    S.
  • Joseph Plazo · 2 years ago
Well it looks like that finally, Google trained its main guns on text link ads. Their site is registering PR 0 or PR N/A at http://www.digpagerank.com.

Googling 'textlinkads.com' or 'text-link-ads.com' also yields no results on the search engine.

This is tantamount to being deindexed. Guys-> strip TLA from your sites now!
  • Micah · 2 years ago
Problogger went back up to PR6 and it looks like JohnChow is only going to drop to PR5. You know how much Johnchow promotes/uses TLA, so I wouldn't be that worried about it. According to Alexa, his traffic may have spiked a little bit even.
  • Sofna · 2 years ago
The site I use to post here dropped from a PR4 to a PR1 on my home page. Most subpages are a PR2, and my portfolio is a PR3 so I am baffled. I have no clue whats going on, my SERPs are still the same. I dont buy or sell links. Its a site for my web design company so I have no clue whats going on. Most of my backlinks are from directories, natural, or from blogging on related topics. I havent seen anyone with such a weird result from this update than my site. Anyone care to guess?

    http://www.sofna.com/

BTW - we arent going anywhere Everton! -=D
  • Everton · 2 years ago
Thanks for the support everyone. So far my SERPS look the same, so I think Google are only reducing Page Ranks to penalise sites who have been using it to sell advertising and to pass it on, rather than adjusting whatever system they really use to actually rank results.

    @Joseph
I doubt Everton’s traffic will suffer from the PR knockdown. His traffic is largely viral in my opinion- look at the whopper feedburner stats!

Actually it's not! About 70% of my traffic comes from Google. I get over 200K unique vistors each month, so at least 1m+ plus over the last 12 months. Now if a decent amount of those ppl had subscribed I'd be way higher than 2k subs!!! It's on of the reasons I've made the subscribe section a hotspot on the new theme

    @martin

Agree - the numbers are all over the place. I'm showing a 5 in some data centres now. there's def more to come next week-hurrah!

    @joseph

I don't see what value deindexing text link ads has, as all it's done is move all the other results up one place! Just seems petty. What will they do next? Move results for Text Link Ads out of the SafeSearch cluster, and put them with the porn and filth where they belong? lol
  • Collin LaHay · 2 years ago
Write for people, not for search engines.

People don't read your blog because it was a PR6, they read it because of your opinion on things. That is essentially what all blogs are, if we wanted popular we would read the new york times. Keep on blogging!
  • horisly · 2 years ago
well, it's a pity to see this.
my site took 1 month to pr2 at april. then the second pr update last day, it's pr5, i am really surprise as so many larger sites seeing the pr dropping.
  • Marcus the Lover · 2 years ago
My friend who took linkexchangeexperts.com's 1000 one way backlinks service has dropped to PR 0.

Paid links really isn't the way to go.
  • mv3gp · 2 years ago
things are quite wired. Lets see we hear some announcement from Google in the days to come or not.
  • Shashank · 2 years ago
Everton why don't you just file a reconsideration request thru google webmasters tools who knows..if they might reinstate your PR like Problogger gets his PR6 back
  • Everton · 2 years ago
    @shashank

can't see what would change. I still have dofollow links. I think the whole point of this upgrade was to stop everyone's fixation on PR - I don't want to make that mistake again. I had one of the best weekends traffic wise and that's what I need to focus on
